Ground coffee loses flavour quickly. Grind only what you need and match the size to the method: fine for espresso, medium for pour-over, coarse for cold brew.
A cup is mostly water. Filtered, neutral-tasting water beats heavy or smelly water, and 92–96°C is a good range for pour-over.
A small scale is more accurate than a spoon. One part coffee to sixteen parts water is a good start for pour-over; adjust to your taste.
Keep beans in an airtight bag or tin in a cool, dry place and use them within a few weeks of roasting.
For iced coffee, freeze cooled coffee in an ice tray so the ice does not water the drink down as it melts.
Espresso and cappuccino suit rich desserts and chocolate, while a light pour-over goes well with pastries and fruit.
